I was wondering if my PSU is enough to run a Geforce GTX 970.

Typically any PSU that doesn't present nearly 100% of it maximum rated power output on the 12V rail is poor quality. In your PSU's case, it only supplies 264W out of 500W on the 12V line. However just because a supply does offer most of its maximum rated output on the 12V line doesn't mean it good either. Other factors come into consideration. But yours is a dead giveaway.

Hi DrunkKoala, a 500 watt power supply that's made for gaming will have around 40 amps on the +12volt rail, about double the amps yours has. You'll have to upgrade to a much better quality model to use a GTX 970. The most you could put on that power supply would be a GTX 750 ti.

I was wondering the same thing about GTX 970. Can you recommend a decent PSU for this graphic card? I have heard XFX TS series or Pro series can be good. Any specific models you can recommend? cheers
