PSU FAN is now making a ton of NOISE

The fan is making a lot of noise, if i apply pressure to the case it shuts up. Does this mean the fan is dying because i don't want to fry my mobo because of the psu.

I think i remember reading that ball bearing fans usually start to slip when there life is almost over. can't remember.

I am actually surprised i didn't get a ton of replies but anyway i read the FAQ and it didn't really mention steps pertaining to my situation so i actually screwed the fan on tighter and it actually shut up. So for now it seems to be ok but u never know what's really going on. Suggestions are still recommended cuz i don't want this thing blowing up like my last computers ( i am not rich).
 
The fan can probably be replaced for a few bucks. Since the power supply is what drives the rest of the machine perhaps you need to invest in a new one...hard to say without knowing what it is you have and what you have hooked up to it.

I was thinking just the same thing. I measured it yesterday and it's an 80mm fan, so i'll just pick one up at work and that'll do the trick i hope. Btw my fan started acting up after i left it on for a while so it's definetly not cured.

As for my PSU, i have a generic 300 watt unit with not much detail on it. But i remember seeing the amps for each rail if that helps.
 
I recommend licking the capacitors.

Well i guess i have no choice. Definetly that warranty is finished by now. And when u say bare wire u mean stipped already right or do they have the 3 pin molex connector inside of it?

Just because my fan is crapping out doesn't mean my psu is right? Cuz at work we sell trusmart PSUs (330 watt) for like 25 bucks cad. And the fan is 15 so i am thinking about just getting a new psu.

Oh and i am going to pass on licking the capacitor lol.
 
where can I get that fan?

Currently in my system, i stripped wires of a fan made a loop and tyed it around the pin to get current to it. ( I did it to reverse the polarity)
 
True, I guess i thought because the PSU is such an important component not only cooling its self but the whole computer too, I figured it would have a very powerful fan with it.
 
I actually have an older case, the largest (which is installed) size i can have for a fan is 60mm and it's the only fan i can add to the case.

Sounds like a plan but my case isn't wide enough, at least i think i'll break something, to creat a 120mm in the back.

Suppose there's another way.
 
Actually u know what. There may be room for me to drill holes for a 120mm fan but what do i do for the opening? As air won't be able to pass through the full 120.

how's that rig now? And did it work as suspected. And the way everything is positioned, i can't see it blocking anything. Having it above the cpu fan won't cause any disruption right?
 
Wo, that's something that should have been run by me from the begginning. It's a good thing i don't have a drill because i would have drilled that hole so quick. Seems like now i need to pick up some polish at a hardware store.
