PSU fan seems to randomly make sound like it's rubbing up against something, but the sound goes away when I put the PC tower on its side, or even if I slightly move/shake the PC tower. What could be the reasons for this? Fan bearings?

Is there anything I may have done to cause this, or is it a manufacturer defect/issue? Worth RMAing?

Try now ... showing for me.

Or try the link below and look at bottom image on page ... I make one for each build we do so use can troubleshoot problems down the road

1. Take out and run it using the paperclip / jumper method.

2. Listen for the noise you hear and try and isolate the source

3. If the noise is a "chattering" noise, like repeated noises separated by short interruptions, it's likely a fan noise. This is the most common encountered and results from a wire perhaps changing position and it's being clipped by the fan blades. The fact that it stopped when you moved it hints strongly as the cause.

4. If it's more of a hum... then it's more likely a fan motor bearing.

5. If it disappears then it's likely coil whine...
I have seen fans hitting wires before or something could be out of place such as a glued on insulating pad. You should be able to see this after taking it out and starting via the paperclip method or one of these.

6. If it stops when ya stop the fan, then it's the fan.

If it's related to the fan, then I'd usually fix it myself rather than wait for the RMA process
