PSU for 2 R9 280X

Hi, I just got 2 R9 280Xs and I am not sure that my old 750W H.E.C. (4x 12v 19A) is up to the task.
So looking into it I just got a bit confused by power consumption. These cards are supposedly drawing 250W each, that's 500W. 750-500=250. 250W for CPU and everything else seems fine to me.
But Sapphire recommends a 1000W PSU for these cards in crossfire :S.

Why the extra juice?

Also. Can this handle the cards?

Yes, I will recommend at least 1000 watts but not the thermaltake PSU. I recommend something eg. a Corsair RM 1000 to ensure stability and overclocking.

I don't trust CM Power supplies as much as Antec, Corsair, NZXT, Seasonic, or PC Power and Cooling.

A good 850W is all you really need.

get a gold edition or higere of a 850w psu and you'll be fine
