I was thinking of going for either the Corsair AX1200i or the EVGA Supernova G2 1300 but i was told that would be overkill, i just wanted to not have to replace my PSU for some time even if i ever decided to put in a 3rd card or something.

The full setup would be

I7 4930K overclocked to 4.6ish

2 x GTX980 with waterblocks

12 x Corsair SP120 Fans (900D case)

Rampage IV Black Edition motherboard

Full water loop with D5 Vario pump cooling the CPU and GPU's

Solution

It is the problem with the written word :)

As you put SP120 Fans (900D case) that to me...

Because the Rampage IV Black Edition was on sale for $389 with a $50 rebate taking total price down to $339 vs $459 for the Rampage V Extreme, and you can use $250 DDR3 corsair platinum RAM rather than $400 DDR4 Corsair Plat. RAM. So it comes out a bit cheaper.

The one problem i keep finding with these PSU is the damn custom cables! i'm trying to find a set of white cables for the corsair ax1200i and all i find are the ones that only work with the 860/760i. Same with EVGA, nearly impossible to find them in stock.

Thus why i said "full water loop" in my post, i'm using two 480mm radiators to run my loop attaching 4 sp120s to them, the other 4 are the fans that come with the 900D which i believe are sp120's as well.

It doesn't come across like that but it doesn't matter, you have them for the right job.

so what does "full water loop with d5 vario pump cooling the cpu and gpu's" come across as? i wouldn't be able to do that without a radiator lol anyway, yeah it doesn't matter.

the thing i worry about is whether my 550 watt XFX TS power supply is enough to handle my single gtx970 with the new rampag iv black mobo and i7 4930k i'm getting or not. It works just fine with my current pc which has the gtx970 and an I5 3570K but i'm only using 2 fans right now so i'm worried that once i upgrade to 4930K, rampage IV mobo and 12 fans (still using a single 970) that it may be too much. But if it isn't i'd rather hold on to my 550w for now since i'm not able to buy other things right away due to getting a PSU.

It is the problem with the written word :)

As you put SP120 Fans (900D case) that to me implied you were using them as case fans, I assumed you had another plan for the radiators.

Its going to be an epic build, good luck with it

Ohhhh, i see. That makes sense.

Yeah it should be pretty good, i'm still stuck on what order to get things in though.

I have $1,000 limit on my Paypal credit account, and i had enough cash on me to buy the Rampage IV Black Edition and a Corsair H100i as a temporary cpu cooling solution that i'll sell to my friend when i switch to a full water cooling loop. So with that 1k i'm trying to decide whether to get the CPU, 900D Case, and the Corsair AX1200/EVGA G2 1300 coming out to that $1,000 total, or would i be better off sticking with my 550 watt XFX TS 80+ bronze power supply and getting CPU, Case, and RAM with that $1k and getting a PSU later.

I'd be running a single gtx970, the 4930K, the H100i, 10 fans total (3 front and 1 exhaust that come with the case, swap out the corsair h100i fans for two sp120 white LED fans, and stick the old h100i fans plus 2 other cheap 120mm fans i have in the basement section) on that X79 Rampage Black mobo. Do you think that 550w would be enough for now if i didn't do much overclocking? If so i can wait on the new PSU and get the corsair platinum ram now, otherwise i'll have to use my ugly as sin a-data 8gb "pcb style" ram sticks that came with the ibuypower pc i bought a few years ago.

Do you think that 550w would run that system for a few months properly till i could get a better one? it runs my 3570K and gtx970 + 2 fans fine but the 4930K uses slightly higher wattage and i'd have more fans and a high tier motherboard instead of the mini ATX H61 i'm using now.

Yeah i wouldn't OC on it if that was the case, i'm just really limited on cash right now thus why i'm having to use paypal credit to pay back over a 6 month period. I've payed $250 towards my motherboard and i plan to order an H100i for temp cooling, so that's ~$500 cost just fot those, with $250 left i owe on it. Then i'm using the $1,000 paypal credit to get a case with peripherals $350, CPU $425, and either 16gb RAM $250 or a PSU $170 or $226. So that's $1,500 right there, plus i'll have to buy a cpu block, water block for my gpu, tubing, fittings, fans, reservoir, and pump for the water loop which is another ~$400-500 or so. Then i would eventually get a 2nd 970 and waterblock that as well so that's another $500. So you can see the reason i'm worried about spending too much lol

So you do think the 550w would be enough if i didn't OC anything? it appears to be a ~40 watt increase in cpu TDP and possibly an increase in motherboard watt usage along with whatever the extra fans come to i guess.

Well it wouldn't be your fault if it failed, it'd be mine for risking it. I'm just trying to get as many opinions as i can. If i stuck with the ugly 8gb adata ram i have i could afford a PSU right away, but i'd have to wait a few months to get decent RAM.

anyone else have an opinion? is 550w enough with no OC'ing? the auctions on the ax1200i aren't going on for much longer so i'm trying to find out so i can decide whether to get my 16gb good ram now and psu later using the 550w now, or to get the ax1200i/supernova 1200 g2 now and use the 8gb ugly adata ram for a few months.
