Hi,

I'm building a new PC from scratch and put together a tentative component list. I'm based in Mexico, so my access to parts and their respective prices is limied by that. I posted a build advice thread here already, but I want to specifically ask about the PSU. A user was kind enough to suggest I should purchase a 1200-1300W PSU rather than the 1000W I have below.

Looking into more details on PSUs, it's all rather overwhelming (ATX 3.0 vs 2.0, PCIe 5 vs 4, 12VHPWR native cables and the risk of melting, etc). I'm having a hard time making heads or tails of all this information, and particularly fear getting it wrong and running into the melting cable problem. I thought I might as well ask some advice on this front to try and process everything before making a decision.

Here's my current list:

I'm not having much luck finding ATX 3.0, PCIe 5 PSUs on Amazon (MX) right now, but maybe I'm just not looking properly. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks in advance!

I love Corsair power supplies and EVGA some of my favorites.

corsair makes the cable dual 8 PIN to single 16 pin up to 600 watts. (Plus the 75 watts from the slot).

I would go with the 1200 watt corsair with that cable.

I"m using this cable on a corsair HXI and 4070TI no issues.

Guy at Microcenter confirmed he is running this same cable on his 4090 with zero issues.

Hope that helps!

Thanks! Unfortunately, it seems Corsair doesn't ship to Mexico, so that's not an option for me. Do the native cables for the HX1200 not work for the 4090?

Unless you have a new power supply with the native 16 PIN (ATX 3.0), you will have to use the included adapter for the 4090.

I have seen some take a 3 eight PIN and 4 eight pin. A lot of power supplies only come with 2 eight pin conenctors.

In short NIVDA in my opinion has changed all this for much of nothing to make it hard on us.

Just be sure if using the adapter you FULLY INSERT IT.

Don't have family in USA to ship you what you need? (another option maybe)

Btw, I'm looking at these two alternatives:

They don't seem to have native 12VHPWR cables, and I don't know if that's an issue (would I need to buy that cable somewhere else?)

This one does have the cable and is ATX 3.0, PCIe 5. But the reviews are not so good on Amazon:

Supernova P+ is outdated because of the ACRF topology.
HX1200 is fine, like the Supernova P6 1000w is.

Toughpower GF3 1200w is a decent unit but a bit loud. Amazon reviews are worthless. Most of the negative reviews are there because of user errors.

That's good to know, thanks! I think I'll go with the HX1200, then.

I'm liaising with someone to see if they can bring it back next time they visit. I'm looking at this cable – hopefully that'll do the trick for the HX1200?
