it was said in a graphics card thread I would need a a 500 watt power supply for the Nvidia gtx 970. Is my current PSU good enough for that card?

I've checked my power supply and it is 500 watt but it is quite noisy.

The PC has 8GB DDR 3 RAM, i5 2500k processor, 256gb ssd, 2tb hard drive, board is Asus P8Z68-V LX and also runs speakers and a subwoofer (seperate power).

Can you supply more information about your PSU? Although your PSU might be rated at 500W, it might be overrated or it might be a bad quality PSU.

Generally speaking, with any reputable power supply (pretty much anyone but Diablotek, Logisys, and Coolmax), 500W should run a single 970 fine.

It says ATX-500 500W Switching Mode Power Supply. Is that okay?
