I am looking to replace my PSU in a DELL 580 MT i sent aa message to this guy on youtube
View: https://youtu.be/15dlfTb1vJg?t=228

He said* Heres is a 500w which will be great for your system
EVGA 500 W1, 80+ WHITE 500W Power Supply( 100-W1-0500-KR)
will this be good enough ? It is only a basic PC i3 550 2TB hdd 128 ssd 4gb and a HD7850 Graphics card 130w on the Tech page on it says a 300w Psu.
Would that work with the Dell 300w PSU.if so i want upgrade.
I know i would have to get a lead for to power the Graphics card.
Power (System board) one 24-pin EPS 12V connector (ATX-compatible. I intend to use it as a XP Retro Gaming PC. Apparently AMD cards are better for XP Gaming so says Phil.s Computer labs

Looking at pcpartpicker is this one modular(!), which seems available, a good deal,
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/bq6qqs/msi-mpg-a-gf-650-w-80-gold-certified-fully-modular-atx-power-supply-mpg-a650gf
if over budget let us know what your budget actually is. Sometimes this "cheap" units mentioned above aren't that much cheaper, but make your own choice there.

If wanting truly low price may this be a good option ,
https://www.newegg.com/evga-550-b5-220-b5-0550-v1-550w/p/N82E16817438167?quicklink=true
Damnit Newegg,! They say under $24 when looking there and then give $55 as price when clicking the part.

Other cheap option,
https://www.newegg.com/evga-bp-series-100-bp-0460-k1-460w/p/1HU-00J7-009M3
don't know it and only 3 year warranty, but likely okay for the old parts in that pc.
Or with free shipping this same but 510watt,
https://www.newegg.com/evga-bp-series-100-bp-0510-k1-510w/p/N82E16817438208
through shipping prices differ little.

The Dell psu might as well be okay, but you can only know by testing. If it has the single pcie connector you need might it just be fine.

Thanks for that Vic:)The cheap ones are good ,the shipping is bad though.:(Now if i could get them on Amazon for a simuler price:)I orded a lead for the Graphics card off eBay over a week ago and not got it yet i can,t see it coming now it was from the UK.I can,t see those cheap PSU,s on Amazon:(But i saw this one Evga 100-Br-0500-K3 500 Br, 80+ Bronze 500W£49 there is one on there warehouse deals for £36 used like new 1 year guarantee. The same seller is selling it on there own site for £35?How come they can sell it for that much less on there own site SCAN Computers. I will go for that.:)

The EVGA BP can also be found at Amazon, just a quick google,
The 460watt
The 510watt

The white ones have a bad rep here, wouldn't want to try those, then again don't know much about these BP since not reviewed, just think that specs look good and they have about full protections and deliver full wattage at the +12V rail.
Like that they are just 120mm deep as well, keeps them abit away from dvd trays at the front with such an older case.

Yes i did, no problems doing it?
I don,t see that i would have any problems doing it with my 580.
I had to use a 24 pin to 8 pin adapter because of my motherboard, but other than that it has been smooth sailing, and I pull a lot more power than your system can. The Inspiron 580 has a standard 24 pin on the motherboard though so it will plug right in for you.

Yes i thought that would be the case very few Optiplex s have the 24 pin, i think the 7010 is one of the few that does.I don,t know why some people have said i would have a problem putting one in my 580.

Problem with the PC beeping not booting :(
I upgraded the PSU to an EVGA that seems to be working fine the Cpu fan is spinning.
I put a new CPU in all it is doing is beeping 6 beeps:Could it be that the cpu is not seated properly?I wish i tried it with the old cpu i.Someone is taking about the CMOS battery.on a Youtube videoI will try taking out the ram first off.
How can i tell if the CPU is not seated properly?
No Signal to the monitor so cant change the bios..I have put the old cpu back in it was stoping and starting .
Since then i have taking the cpu heatsink out now it is giving 4 beeps?
I just can,t believe all this i don,t think i am up for building a PC:(
It was all working fine tell i did the PSU upgrade.
I can,t see how there can be a problem now.:(

Which psu?
Which cpu you upgrade to?
Anything on the motherboard that says what it is so we can verify cpu is compatible, sometimes with oem they do not allow everything.

EVGA 500 BR80+500W PSU 100-BR-0500-someone asked the question on another forum heres there reply *
just want to confirm for anybody that has this older PC like I do that you can indeed stick an i7-870 in the motherboard and it will work fine. Just because Dell did not "support" the i7 in this motherboard, does not mean the chipset and Windows will not recognize it. My BIOS, which is revision A07 from 2010, recognizes the CPU as an i7-870 with hyperthreading. I feel like many of the other threads I read on this topic were misleading by so called experts who said it would not work, so I tried it myself and it works just fine.
I got the one down from that i7 860.

For one, that the fan is spinning doesn't mean it's working as supposed and it's not the best option although the ones i linked are hardly the best as well.

Maybe, but that answer is not yours if i'm reading right so it doesn't mean that your motherboard just does the same.

It's not a good sign that nobody has an i7 on userbenchmark with that PC. Not definitive, but telling.

It does not work on mine.:(I put the i3 back in that is working ,but two of the slots for the Ram do not work,.looking at utube videos not many people can get them to work:(So not good as want be able to use Windows10 i will give it up as a bad job .It is no good just having 2gb of ram.I just wished i had done a full check with the i3 ,as before i put the PSU in all the slots were working fine. You live and learn.;)

Only two slots working might be mounting pressure of the cpu coler, reseat and make sure it's snug on all sides.
Someone else on another tech forum asked to show a photo of the CPU unit and said there were bent pins in it.How can i show a photo of it on here?Attachment?
