Idk much about PC build and I just got myself this used PC from my friend and this is currently the PC spec:

i5 4670K
16 GB DDR3 Corsair vengeance pro
msi h81m-e35 v2 board
Sapphire R9 270x
WD 1TB Hardisk (2 Pcs)
500 watts PSU Enermax NAXN

and now I'm eyeing a XFX RX 580 8GB GTS ver. to replace the R9 270X, do you think my current PSU still can support RX 580? because what I've read in several reviews RX 580 power consumption is pretty high (could go over 300), but when I tried some online PC power calculator with the addition of RX 580 my PSU still relevant for my est total power consumption still around 396 watts..I'm confused here..I could use some advice...thx guys.

& btw 1 more question, I only play on 1080p resolution, should I get the 4GB ver or 8GB ver for the RX 580?

Solution

Get the 8GB ver. That version is more futureproof than the 4 GB ver. is. It doesn't matter if u play at 1080p. The...

So basically my current 500w PSU still sufficient if I buy RX 580? And also..do you think I should get the 4GB ver rather than the 8GB ver since I only play at 1080p? Thx

Hello... There isn't any solid tests/products that I'm finding... but it does seem to be using a New GPU chip (14nm Polaris 20 XT(X/R) in it that will require less power to operate it. B /

this web page shows a projected 185 watts of +12Vdc needed. https://videocardz.com/amd/radeon-500/radeon-rx-580

Your CPU only needs 84 watts @+12Vdc http://ark.intel.com/products/75048/Intel-Core-i5-4670K-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3_80-GHz

The ENP500AGT spec sheet here shows 408 watts on your +12Vdc rails and looks like you will be fine with your current PS. B /

Can you give us the "exact" model#'s of your Power supply so I can double check them? B )

I suggest the 4gb for single/dual 1080P monitor operation. B )

Here's the link about xfx rx 580 review: http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/xfx_radeon_rx580_8gb_black_edition/9.htm
Here's the link i5 review: https://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2013/06/12/intel-core-i5-4670k-haswell-cpu-review/6

from that 2 links I came up with the power consumption question, coz if rx 580 8GB under load is already at 285w (silent) & 304w (OC) and i5 4670k when under load is 132w what about the other parts (ram, HDD, fan, DVD etc)?

Btw, The model of my PSU is ENP500AGT.

And If I may ask another question, if I only play at 1080p res, why did you suggest me to take the 4GB ver instead of the 8GB? I'm curious coz youre the 1st to say that (most of my friends said I should get the 8GB)...thank you :)

Soooo...basically my PSU still adequate if I'm going to get the RX 580 then :) , Well since I don't plan playing on any 4K monitor then 4GB will do (good for my pocket too) right? Thx a lot :)

Hello... So tweakers said about 308 watts? OC... hmmm... do you wanna use that number for calculations? that would put you at 392 watts with the CPU circuit. B /

***are you sure you not getting a re-stickered R480 as a 580?... those watts are high B / utube that B )

Why not go Nvidia for Power savings? B /

Well since I'm still green at PC building thats why I'm asking you guys :) , coz up until now I'm still not 100% sure that my current PSU will be enough if I buy RX 580 and I also aware that rx 580 just a re-branding rx 480 with higher clock. If I have rx 480 I wouldn't consider buying a rx 580 :)

I also consider nvidia cards but as far as I know nvidia cards (gtx 1060) still behind amd when were talking about dx 12 / vulkan game, therefor I consider the amd cards are lil more future proof CMIIW.

Hello... But is AMD finally coming out with a Lower Watt high performance GPU this month?... can you wait to see what happens this month before a purchase? Unless the news is out already?

I'm not an AMD guy because of the wattage, but I do understand the need for 'special features" from them... your current PS should run this card and CPU but you could be at it's limit if your going to OC it? all that wattage turns into heat in your case and higher energy bill for who ever pays them B D

I think I get your point sir, actually I maybe be lil bit in a rush to get new card coz my r9 270x is at its limit for today games. But some say I should wait for 2 months until amd release its VEGA line of cards and see if theres a price change in the market or (if theres such thing as magic), maybe amd card manufacturers will come up with a new card with better power consumption..lol. As for OC I dont plan to OC my cards, that's why I search for factory OC cards coz I'm still not sure my PSU can handle it.

But if I take a 4GB ver of rx 580, maybe I can use the remaining budget to look for better PSU. Btw thank you for the advice tho.. cheers :)

Possibly but depends on how much wear and tear the PSU has been thou. The 580 is on the high end of GPU's for 1080p so the 4GB is plenty fast. The 8GB versions are over $30 high so get the 4GB version.

Thank you for the advice, I've eyeing those two parts since yesterday...cheers :)

Get the 8GB ver. That version is more futureproof than the 4 GB ver. is. It doesn't matter if u play at 1080p. The VRAM affects shaders and textures, if you have more VRAM, you'll have better textures with more FPS, 'cause the graphic card makes less effort loading those textures/shaders.

Solution

if i understood correctly it is like this; if your power supply has connectors for your gpu then it's ok, of course that's only valid for single gpu with single connector...
