I'm not sure if its normal, but my psu isn't the best (say, a corsair ax series thing) or the worst (the psus in...idk, dell pc's). I put in a new storage drive and hooked it up via a molex cable, because my sata power cables were full. So I turned on the system, it went off...then on...then off again....and then it finally stayed on to boot windows. Is that normal?

EDIT: this is a 550w psu for a Pentium g4560 + gtx 1050 combo...so it should be plenty overall.

If it were me I would just not worry about it. If it becomes an apparent problem I'd post back here, because like I said, I have the exact same issue occasionally.

We don't know if it's a PSU problem. I have a similar issue on my computer - sometimes when I turn on the computer, it turns on for like 4 seconds, turns off, then turns on again, then it may successfully boot (or sometimes it may turn on a second time).

Never has caused any problems, just an occasional minor annoyance. But I don't suspect it's the power supply, I'd suspect the motherboard. If a power supply shuts itself off from a protection, it does what is called "latching" where it's impossible for it to turn back on again unless you flip the switch on it off and on (or unplug it from the wall and plug it back in).

Something like shutting off the PSU (by initiating the "PS_ON" signal) and back on is something the motherboard would control and do. Why on earth it happens is a mystery to me.

If it keeps happening you can try removing the storage device to see if that alleviates the issue or if it persists.

I’ve booted for a few times and it seems to work properly now...it stays on... I don’t know...weird stuff

EDIT: My mobo is a Biostar b250gt5...I was going to get something better, but fellow experts said to not skimp on the psu...so...that’s the last option I had on my list...because it was on sale...
