Psu good enough for gtx 980?

Hi guys

My first post here and I'm a bit of a noob, so please don't think my question too stupid >.<

I currently have a gtx 660 with a single psu 6 pin input and want to upgrade to a gtx 980, but not sure if my psu is compatible with the 980.

My current psu is a MS Tech ATX V2.3 MS-N750-VAL

I can only find one connector for the gpu and that is a 6+2 pin connector.

I have read that the 980's require 2 connectors, from 2x 6 pin to 2x 8 pin (I could be wrong here), so was wondering if there is any way I can use the current psu with a 980, perhaps by using a molex to 6/8 pin adaptor??

I'm not particularly techy and the above suggestion is something that I've come up with after reading through some Google things that come up when trying to figure things out :-o

I wouldn't risk your system on a PSU like that anyway. What are the exact cables required by the GTX 980 you're looking to get? Yeah, it seems to be a German PSU brand, but with no information I can find. It most likely sucks and should not even dare touch an expensive high-end GPU like a GTX 980.

Tweakers.net has a review of your PSU. While I don't speak German, I see from Google it got a 1 star rating.

That PSU will do if you use an adapter. I used an adapter for over a year with a previous PSU.

I would suggest you consider either gtx970 (which is very close to a gtx 980) or a gtx980ti (which is better) The 980 seems to be to be sort of in no mans land being too close in performance to the cheaper card and too close in price to the faster one.

I'm not going to undermine your statement, but I would like to know what sources you ave to back up that that PSU is good.

Just my experience using such an adapter although on a different PSU and video card. The PSU as specified significantly exceeds the power requirements of the stated GFX card. Not my choice in a PSU, but it should work fine. He never asked if the PSU was good, only if it was good enough.

Ok gentlemen, thanks for the replies

The psu has worked with no problems with the gtx 660 that I currently have, but a couple of your answers have made me wary of using this psu on a top end card, using adaptors.

Is there a reasonably priced psu that any of you would recommend to get before I get the new gpu please?

The Rosewill 750w platinum is a well reviewed. It won't make a run at Seasonic for the best of the best, but it is less than 1/2 the price for similar (if slightly inferior) performance.
