Hi all

i have asked a few different people for advice on wether my psu is good enough for my new hd5770
in most cases i got a yes but a few people are saying i need a 750w psu so could i get any advice as to whether i need to upgrade or not here is my specs and my psu

Phenom II x4 940 3ghz
Kingston Hyperx 1066 2gb x2
750gb hdd
and my psu is OCZ StealthXstream 600w

the fact it had 4x 12V rails with 18amp on each made me belive it was enough but now im not so sure any help would be great even if its a simple YES YOUR FINE lol

also i got this from ocz but not 100% sure how reliable it is

"The 600SXS should have enough power for either video card. One of the +12V rails is used for the video card(s). 18A = 216 watts. This is for the video card alone. Most review sites will give you total system power. The 5770 will only draw about 75 watts"

Here are the ATI recommended power supply requirements for the ATI Radeon HD 5770 and 5750 video cards:

450 Watt or greater power supply with one 75 watt, 6-pin PCI Express® power connector recommended

600 Watt or greater power supply with two 75 watt, 6-pin PCI Express® power connectors for ATI CrossFireX™ technology in dual mode.

The recommendations are for an entire pc system.

The OCZ StealthXstream 600 watt power supply is an adequate psu for the average user. Here are links to a few technical reviews:

Just another say for your PSU, a 5770 system needs around 450W, and around 600W for crossfire (

And OCZ PSU's are usually regarded as good quality. But be wary of 4 18amp 12 rails, lots of people think that means they have 4 x 18 = 72 amps on there 12v rail, but that would mean there psu would be a least 18 x 12v = 864W, So just watch out for that.

Welcome, and hope that helps/re-affirms you

Edit: ahh johnny you beat me too it
