PSU Handle GTX 260 Upgrade?

Im thinking with in the next month, hopefully the prices drop to upgrade my GTS 250 to a GTX 260 (core216). From the looks of it, it is quite a significant upgrade from my current card and i only have a 19" lcd which is 1440x900, but i still want a bit more when gaming in crysis, farcry2, and wow. Now my main problem i am worried about is my Power supply which i really do not want to replace sense im about to drop close to 200 for the gtx 260. What do you guys think can my system run the upgrade card. Nothing is Overclocked ever.

Firstly, your screen has no effect on your pcs power consumption but you are running on a quad processor and a graphics card with a power consumption of, lets not argue about the exact value, 300W. You need at least a 750Watt Power Supply to run smoothly. Your old one might handle it but i wont garuantee that it would last long. Buy a big Enermax PSU and you will enjoy ur system

^ That's crap. Totally. Who're you kidding with at least 750W? Even GTX 260 SLI uses less than that. With one HDD and one RW, the 550 should be enough. Nvidia asks for 500W, but that includes lower quality PSUs. I've heard of people running the 260 on a Corsair VX450, so the 550 shouldn't be problem. 18A in 3 12V+s Antec says, dunno what maximum 12V output is.

No problems with power, the PSU has 3 12v rails, each giving 18 Amps, plenty for a GTX260
Before you pay the money, take a look at a few reviews because I think you will be dissapointed with the upgrade. Also bear in mind most review sites use more powerful CPUs than yours so the framerates they give will be higher than those you see, but the hierachy will be the same.

Yeah, you'll be able to handle it just fine. According to this review, a gtx 260 consumes 16a under a full load, which is within your specs. You won't have much available power to add anything more, but you can run a gtx 260 just fine.

lol i have the same psu (Antec True Power Trio 550w ) and i have TWO gtx 260 in sli and everything is just fine..

You'll see a much better improvement from upgrading your CPU, not your GPU. I just went from a phenom 9500, so i was pretty close to the same CPU as you - i upgraded to an x3, and it was worlds faster.

yep, better off with a faster CPU.....

the GPU performance gain is not worth it.....
