PSU has 2 6-pin PCIe connecters, GPU needs 1 8-pin

Hi everyone,

I have a Rosewill Stallion 500W PSU and I just got a Gigabyte GTX 1060 6GB GPU. My PSU only has 2 of the 6-pin PCIe connectors, no 6+2, no 4x2, just the 2 6-pins and couple molex. Plugging in just a 6-pin gives the "please connect power to the GPU" message on boot, so that's a bust. Am I stuck getting an adapter? Or worse, do I need a different PSU? If I need an adapter, is 6-pin to 8-pin better or is molex x2 to 8-pin better? Thanks for your help!

While that adapter will trick the GPU into seeing an 8-pin plugged in, it will pull 150w from a 6-pin rated 75w, same as this hack to simply add a ground wire:

There are actual dual 6-pin to single 8-pin adapters like this one, and those are the only adapters safe to use as all wires are in spec (three molex to a 6-pin would also probably be safe but nobody makes such a thing).
