[SOLVED] PSU has a smell after being unboxed

Hi,

I recently purchased an EVGA 500W 80+ PSU and upon the unboxing, I noticed that there was a faint electrical smell coming out of the PSU. It's not very intense, I can only smell it if I put my nose right up to the PSU's fan. I wanted to ask if this is normal, or does this mean my PSU has burned out? Thanks in advance for your help.

You might have a very light smell, but you should be keeping an eye on it. If you purchased it from a Ma & Pa computer store you might tell them you noticed and odd odor before you use it to give them a heads up.

Can't be sure w/o being there, but I suspect you're simply smelling the burn-off from factory testing what with it being new and all. Kinda like the 'new car smell'. Once those electrical components get hot for the first time, they bake off all their volatile coatings and such.
