PSU has randomly died?

So last night I turned off my pc. When I returned to it this morning it would not boot. Whenever I turn it on the fans spin for maybe half a second? Sometimes the fans will stay on and the pc will turn on but it does not post, my led strips flash it quick succession. Although other times the PSU will let out a loud whine.

I've tried running the PC in a minimalist style, removing GPU, removed 3 sticks of ram unplugged stuff that didn't need to be used, yes the same issue occurred. Tried unplugging 24 pin connector, and the cpu connector and plugging them back in, no difference.

The PSU has ran perfectly for about a year and a half and yet randomly this happens?

Sorry if this is not enough detail, I don't really know what needs to be said or how to adequately describe what's happening. My PSU is a Corsair RM650, specs can be found in my signature.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Any biological being or electrical device can fail for no apparent reason, and without warning.

Now on to your power supply. We rank power supplies on Tom's on the component quality and manufacturing quality of the power supply. Rankings are Tier 1 at the top, and Tier 5 at the bottom, with Tier 4 and 5 being power supplies that I would not buy. Tier 3 is generally better than Tier 4 and 5, but still tends to use at least some low quality parts. The actual description for Tier 3 is as follows:

Tier Three
Some Haswell compatible, some not (maybe unconfirmed). Still safe to use and stable, just lower quality components. Some capacitors maybe Japanese, but can include the Taiwanese capacitors. Not really ideal in serious...

Your power supply is a tier 3 power supply. It appears to have a 5 year warranty on it as well. I would contact Corsair and see if they can help you either resolve the problem with it, or RMA it.

Solution
If you still have warranty left i would contact corsair and see if you can get yours replaced. Sometimes it just happens to good supplys they just die prematurely.
Could have been heat build up some kind of dirt in the supply or a number of things with out being able to test it I could not really give you a definitive answer.
Could just be 1 component failed so its messing up the supply. I for one would quit using it to try to start your system before you damage another part of your computer.

Cables are sleeved, no idea which pins to use, and fan is a hybrid mode one so wont turn on unless certain parameters are met

Thank you, I shall contact corsair, I will reach back to the thread once I have come to some kind of conclusion
