So I am starting to build my new computer I already have the motherboard, cpu, and ram. I put my specs into a psu calculator and it said my system would run at about 420 watts that's with the cpu overclocked. I dont really want a 500 watt psu, because I might crossfire the gpu one day, so I would need a 600 watt psu.

Here is the spec so you know

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z77X-D3H
CPU: i5 3570k
Ram: Patriot (2x4gb) DDR3 1600mhz
GPU: Sapphire 7870 2gb DDR5

Extras:
1 7200rpm HHD
2 120mm Fans
No DVD-tray (I have an external one that FLYS really fast)

No liquid cooling yet, but I did put that into the calculator because I do plan on getting one in the next few months

I want to try to keep the psu under $50, I know that's hard but I have seen a few

What I am considering:

Coolmax Power Supply ATX 600 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817159079

Its cheap and is 80 PLUS Certified

The one component you should not be thinking "cheap" is the PSU.

It's not 80 Plus certified because Coolmax only have four units on Ecova's website, and none of them are 600W.
There is also the issue of it having a PFC 115 / 230 V switch; only old, outdated designs have that switch nowadays. Old designs like that are less than 80% efficient, if it is less than 80% efficient (@ 20%, 50% & 100% loads) then it can't be 80 Plus certified.

Aright thanks :) I have have decided just to spend the extra $30 - 40 for quality, and because I am doing cpu and gpu overclocking

I am thinking about this psu: Corsair Builder Series CX 600 Watt ATX/EPS 80 PLUS http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139028

Hi - So, are you looking to spend $65-70 total on a PSU then?

Tom

I ask because you might be able to do even better than the cx600 (nothing wrong that PSU tho)

Hi again - For $5 more ($65 net after rebate) you can get the tx650, the tx series is a step up
from the cx series. At least take a look at it:

I do like both of those PSU, the problem is I need to buy them from Amazon, because I get free shipping (Amazon Prime), but it seems that PSUs are ~$20-30 more on Amazon 🙁 So maybe I will go newegg for the psu?

If you're concerned about shipping costs, Newegg offers a trial for ShopRunner for getting free 2 day shipping from several different websites. I signed up for the trial and used it to place my order for my last build, and then cancelled the trial membership.

It should have a link for the free trial underneath the "Add To Cart" button on Newegg.
