I really need help with this.
I was just curious if the
PSU Corsair ModXstream 900w PSU
http://dytronix.com/shop/index.php?products_id=5475

Would be strong enough and has the right rails to power a
nforce 780i motherboard
q6600
ddr2 4gb
and a 1 - 2 gtx 280 or 1 - 2 9800's

If this isnt right can anyone reccommend another MODULAR psu on the cheaper side.
I looked into the Ultra x3's and their just wayy to expensive, unless the 800w would be strong enough to power this?

Thank you! :)

The Enermax Modu82+ has the capabilities to run GTX280 SLI, since it has enough wattage and 4x8-pin PCI-Express connectors.

The Antec Tru-Power Quattro has the required 2x6-pin and 2x8-pin for GTX280 SLI.

With adapters the SilverStone ST75F would work and the ST85F is good without adapters.

The SeaSonic M12 SS-700HM would also work with adapters, which are included with the bundle that comes with the GTX280.

Here is what is generally acknowledged to be a good guide to PSU quality:

Apparently Enermax PSUs are over-rated on this list.

That is actually an OCZ ModXStream PSU which generally acknowledge not to be as good as Corsair PSUs. But it is still Tier 2 so I guess it should be OK. Certainly 4x 12V rails at 20A each is pretty good!!

Also consider the new(ish) 1000Watt Corsair HX1000 PSU (modular!!) ?? Link:

Performance PCs ship world-wide at very cheap rates (US Postal) - I buy stuff from them here in the UK!
The Corsair HX1000 will only limit you if you need to run more than 2x SLI/Crossfire!!

BTW The Ultra X3 1000Watt maybe expensive but it is a daddy. :sol: I have one and it is really nice: quiet and v. stable 24/7.

Just adding in some alternatives since you'll probably land up with having a PSU like this for quite a few years!!

Alright awesome thanks!
and also just curious does the OCZ Modxstream have right connectors for 9800's or gtx 280 I think their 8 pin?
and how can I tell if it has the right connectors
Thanks for the help!

Heck you should be checking what PCIe connectors your PSU have!! That ain't hard!! Any decent website (that actually wants to sell you something  ) will list all the connectors on a PSU (Performance PCs, New Egg, etc.).

The GTX 280 card requires a PCIe 6-pin and 8-pin power connector. I understand it won't work with 2x 6-pin:
http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1326501

But the 2 extra pins are only extra ground (0V) so you should be able to put an adapter in there to split them out. My Corsair HX620 PSU just piggybacks 2 ground connectors on the 6-pin connector to make an extra detachable 2-pin connector. Its quite an easy mod. to hardware (just don't mix the leads up!!)
