Hello all, I just bought the new nvidia gtx 1060 for my rog g20 it's the i5 3.2ghz model. The card requires 400 watts of available power but my power adapter is only 230 watts. My question for you guys is how do I get 400 watts out of this PSU? Everyone says you just buy the 180 watt power adapter and plug it in and then bam you have 410 watts and you're good to go. This doesn't make sense to me because how can plugging in an adapter give you watts without actually buying an aftermarket power supply?

I looked up the specs, and it actually has two power jacks, one for 180 watts, one for 230 watts. I think the idea is that with both plugged in, you get 410 watts total.

See the pictures near the bottom of https://www.asus.com/us/ROG-Republic-Of-Gamers/ROG_G20AJ/

Check this out, same chasis, 1080 graphics, two power adapters.. So it seems likely?

I'm not sure why they'd put two power jacks on it if it wasn't safe to use them together (at least with their power bricks).

Putting a gtx 1080 in there seems like pushing their luck, though - https://forum-en.msi.com/faq/article/power-requirements-for-graphics-cards recommends 32 amps on the +12V rail when building a system with a gtx 1080, and 410W would give you 34.167 amps in the absolute best-case scenario (I don't find specifications for the actual power available on the different rails), which isn't much of a safety margin. I'm also rather concerned about the airflow for a gtx 1080 in a confined case like the rog g20.
