PSU makes high pitch sound when a vacuum is turned on

My PSU makes a high pitched sound when a vacuum cleaner is turned on in my house. This started happening when I recently replaced the PSU in my computer, so I'm sure that's the source of the sound. The vacuum cleaner is never plugged into the same outlet as the computer, and it's usually never plugged into an outlet on the same fuse.

Has any one here ever heard of PSU making a high pitched sound when something high powered is plugged into an outlet in the house? Is it something I should be worried about?

This should be normal as long as a capacitor hasn't blown. Also You may have too many things plugged in to one out or power strip in the wall.

How can I tell if the capacitor is blown? Would I have to take it in for repair to find out? Also, would that be a safety issue if i didn't get it fixed?

I think it's a power issue because of your home sockets , you have a great power supply , I seriously doubt your power supply is defective.

Its not dangerous at all it just means its working. You can get it fixed at a local frys or something but its not necessary. One of my gpu's when overclocked whines because I turned up the voltage a bit. I wouldn't draw to much from your outlet as this can lead to a short. Have a electrician come out and look at it.

Take your computer to a friends house , to verify the cause .See if the symptoms happen there also.

Okay good to know it's not a safety hazard. I live in an older building, so it's probably the wiring here. Thanks for taking the time to respond guys.

Try it on a little used circuit, when a Vacuum is initially started, if on the same power circuit, like any power hungry device it will pull a lot of AMPs at start up and can in affect starve other device, might also check the house wiring to ensure no missing grounds or neutrals, can pick up a three prong, three light tester for about 5 bucks and try it in the sockets in the house, the combination of lights that come on will give the status of the outlet socket
