Hey all

My PC's specs/hardware are these:

Motherboard: MSI B350 Tomahawk
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 1600 @ 3.2GHZ
GPU: MSI NVIDIA 1070 Gaming X
RAM: CORSAIR Vengeance LED 16 GB DDR4 RAM @ 3200MHZ
PSU: Cooler Master G650M 650W PSU
SSD: Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SSD
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 2 TB HDD
Monitor: BENQ ZOWIE XL2411 144hz 1ms

Now I built this in late August/early September. Everything has been smooth ever since.

Today around 1AM I left my PC, while my game was open, to grab a bite to eat. Returned after 30ish minutes to hear an electical crackling noise. I immediately closed my game and placed my PC to sleep. As it slept I examined the origin of the noise as it kept going on. I decided it was the PSU. After that I first turned the PSU off; the noise's volume decreased but kept going on. Then I unplugged it which killed the noise.

I am using a surge protected IKEA cable (https://www.ikea.com.tr/urun-katalogu/aydinlatma/aydinlatma-aksesuarlari/90280826/koppla-2-usb-girisli-4lu-priz.aspx)

My desklamp, PSU, monitor and my phone charger are connected to it.

I dont know how can I fix this issue, as it bothers me; the fact that there is a small noise and that I fear the PSU will explode

Hope you can help me.

Thanks in advance

Try plugging it directly into the wall to see if it stops it may be that IKEA cable
Its just an electrical buzz. Its normal in most PSU's, in fact anything that carries a lot of power will often times have a crackling like what your hearing. You can try cleaning any dust out of it, that may help, but I don't think its anything to be worried about.

Issue is that I live in Turkey. Spent 4 years saving for this PC. While the PC is roughly 800-900 USD with Monitor, I paid nearly 2100 USD because of taxes here in Turkey. Thats why I am fearing regarding it. Is there any way to be sure? I was planning on doing a little dust cleaning soon already so...

I don't think its much to worry about, its normal I've had it happen on my old system. If your really that worried you can always buy a new PSU.

Again, buying is not really an option right now as the economy here aint that good.

I recorded a crappy video (https://youtu.be/ctFviF8s3j8). Since its a bit noisy, I suggest you watch it in max volume to hear the crackling.

But the noise halts only when I pull the PSU cable out. Noise continues when I turn off the PSU switch to off. Noise continues when the PC was in sleep.

It doesn't. If I remove the cable from the PSU or unplug the PSU from the IKEA outlet the noise stops.

Update: Seems like when the PC is not in a game the noise halts? I am trying it by playing a bit of Elite Dangerous and for the past 15 mins, there is no crackling...

Also if there is a crackling, it comes and goes for some reason, somehow.
