I'm building a new comp and I have a problem somewhere between the PSU, MOBO, or CPU and I don't know what it is.

This is just a basic breadbox test with no other components connected besides what's listed below

Components: MSI Gaming 5 Z97 Mobo, Corsair 860i PSU, I7-4790k CP, 1 8G stick G Skill Trident 1600 RAM (1.5v),Standard Intel box cooler for test purposes.

The PSU self tests fine with just its AC cord installed, but when I connect the ATX connections to the mobo and PSU and turn the PSU switch on, no green light and it's not running.

I'm positive the connections are snugly fit on the mobo and PSU In the right positions.

I reseated the CPU to ensure it is installed correctly and even applied my own thermal paste (small amount) to make sure there is nothing excessive.

I switched between all 4 RAM slots with each RAM stick, no dice.

The outlet I'm on does not have a GFI and it tested fine with other electronics.

I don't have a speaker installed on the mobo unless the Gaming 5 already has one built in?

When I installed everything in the case before this test, my case power light would light up, but pressing it did nothing. I assumed a short somewhere so I removed everything to try this basic functionality test.

I'm stuck... What steps do I take now to isolate where my problem is? Thanks in advance

By PSU switch are you talking about the one on the back of the PSU? If this is won't turn your PC you need to jump the power pins of the motherboard look up the power switch pins on your motherboard and join them with a mental objects

Ok I connected the Power switch included on the I/O of my case. Clicked on. The mobo lights up, cpu fan spins and PSU clicks off. All in the span of less than a second. What does that tell me?

I've connected my included case I/Os but I don't have anything attaching a ground in that slot. There is a slot in JFP2 right next to my JFP1 slot that has a pin for a ground, yet I have nothing included in my case to make that connection.
