Question PSU overheating after CPU fan replacement

Hi,

I have a weird problem. Today I changed the CPU fan for a new one because of noisy bearings, along with thermal paste replacement between the heatsink and the CPU. I was grounded and everything went fine. I tried to start the PC without the side cover to make sure the new fan spins. It was OK, so I turned it off, covered the side of the PC and turned it on. After like 15 minutes of normal operation (I read some online news), it shutdown suddenly (black screen, no proper shutdown). I tried to power it back up but pressing the power button didn’t work. I thought that I’d try to turn off and on the switch on the PSU. The PSU was hot as hell and when I touched it I felt something like a small kick from static electricity. After the PSU cooled down, I managed to power it on but in like 20 minutes it failed again, hot and with static on the outer PSU cover.

What could be the possible causes of such strange behavior?

Thanks in advance. :)

Sounds like the PSU is failing. I would replace it as soon as possible.
I'd also advise against turning the computer on again; unchecked static can ruin the motherboard.
