I recently bought an Asus gtx 780 and tried to get it set up today, the 6 pin from my PSU went in no problem, but for some reason instead of having an 8 pin PCIE cable I have two 4 pins, tried to put them in anyway as its the same amount of pins but they wouldn't fit. So my question is, does anyone have any idea why this has happened and if it's specific to certain PSUs, and if I'll need to buy some kind of adapter or a new PSU? Thanks in advance.

Make sure they are actually meant for the GPU. Are you assuming they are PCI-Express cables or do you know? Make sure your PSU is really meant to support a 6+8pin GPU. It would be helpful to tell us your exact model. The nice thing about PC components is that only the parts that are meant to fit actually fit. If you can't get it in, make sure you aren't operating under a false assumption. Also, usually cables that are meant to work in conjunction can be attached together. A 20+4 pin motherboard power cable can usually have the 20 and 4 pins latch together so you can connect them as one. Without telling us your PSU model it is all just guess work though.

Those might be your extra CPU power connectors. What power supply do you have? Some of the older ones might not have an 8 pin connector for the GPU, but have a 4+4 pin connector for the CPU.

http://www.coolermaster.co.uk/product.php?category_id=3551&product_id=6696, also I think you might be right about them being for the CPU, they were originally attached to the mobo but I assumed that when I built it I accidentally put then there not releasing they were for gpu, didn't even realise cpu needed powered separately, guess I was wrong. Any advice after seeing the PSU specs page would be appreciated.
