I bought a Seasonic focus GX-650 about 2 month's ago, hefty price but I wanted a good PSU, it was defective. So I get it replaced by RMA, I got the replacement a few day's ago, put it into my computer and it run's fine. I use it all day and than turn it off for the night. During that night a thunderstorm rolled through and was a pretty brutal one as well. I try turning my computer on the next day and it start's power cycling, I turn it off using the switch at the back, unplug it, check all the connection's and one of em seemed kinda lose so i crammed it in there. It turn's on as soon as I plug it in, without me even needing to hit the power button. Use it all day and only got one blue screen. Next day I turn it on again and get the same issues.

I look inside and nothing really has changed, it should be working, I plug it in and it turn's on the same way it did last time, without me even needing to hit the power button. This is getting ridiculous, so I put my old PSU in and it turn's on without problem. What has happened to my Seasonic PSU? It still boot's but I suspect it is damaged and I don't know if it would qualify for RMA. Is it a CMOS issue? Because CMOS setting's did pop up once during the boot screen's. (I didn't change anything) I just don't know if I should RMA it or not, paperclip test still run's fine but I hear that doesn't actually diagnose anything. I look at the seasonic support page and on the warranty section it say's: Seasonic maintains the discretion to either repair the defective product or replace it with another one of equal or similar performance, provided that:
  • " The product was not damaged due to normal wear and tear or acts of nature, such as lightning, flood or fire "
So is my warranty void because it died from a lightning strike?

When you stated that the system was powered down/turned off, was the wall outlet also shut off?

Is it a CMOS issue? Because CMOS setting's did pop up once during the boot screen's.
A new CR2032 cell doesn't cost much, try replacing it and see if that removes the issue. It has happened to me in the past for a couple of very badly maintained builds, not to mention builds that were hit with brown outs/lightning strikes.

Q: So is my warranty void because it died from a lightning strike?
A: ...acts of nature, such as lightning, flood or fire.

Yes, the warranty is void. Warranties are offered by companies to protect you against defects in the manufacture and design of the product from the company who sold it. Lightning damage is not a problem of their making. Just like Ford won't give you a new car under warranty if yours is destroyed in a forest fire, lightning damage is an issue for your homeowner or renter's insurance policy, not the makers of individual products damaged by lightning.
