Hi all, quick question, I am attempting to replace my current PSU, after much research and head scratching im a little confused on how much wattage I should really be going for, my build is a gaming rig with no plans to SLI/watercool/have hunderds of lights.

My current systems is:

CPU: Intel quad core i7-4790K
Mobo: MSI Z97M Gaming
GPU: Nividia GTX Asus Strix Gaming 1070
Harddrive: Western Digital 1TB
Ram: Corsair DDR3 1866Mhz x4
PSU: Aerocool Strike X 1100 Watts Modular.

I dont know what teir/wattage suits this build, but I do like the Modular PSU's.

Many thanks, as always appreiate your advice.

It is, but the reality is that your 1070 will probably not even hit nowhere near 500, let alone 450. The important part is the quality of the unit, not how many wattage it can handle. For example, would spend $50 on a 850watt by a company named PowerSupplier? Or $75 on a 550w by Seasonic/Corsair/EVGA, some well-known and established companies.
Well, it depends on what your budget is. I honestly will recommend a Seasonic - https://pcpartpicker.com/product/gYMFf7/seasonic-power-supply-s12g550

It's around $60, modular, and should be able to handle what you need. You don't need 1100watts, you don't even need a 500, but it's always good to have some headroom.

EDIT: Correction, the seasonic is NOT modular, not even semi. Not sure what I was thinking. Looks like I got it confused with this one: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/DPCwrH/seasonic-power-supply-ssr550rm

Thanks for replying, just looking at your suggestion, see I was thrown by the 1070 requiring a apparent min 500watt psu, I am willing to pay well over a £100 as far as im aware its a pretty important part.
