Hi, I consulted to different topic of this site:

http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2439726/desktop-weird-problem.html#14897214

and we are debating either mobo or my PSU is my desktop problem.

If I were to change my psu, what is typically do I need to buy?

I saw a coolermaster 750w with an affordable price so if its ok I might go with that choice.

I have 6 fans and 1 fan for cpu water cooling.

my video card is r9 270x and using i7-2700 with 2x 4gb corsair vengeance memory.

Maybe close the other topic when you start a new one with a link to this one?

Am not sure about the psu being the issue. The cooler master is however a good choice, but for a single gpu build could you make do with the 650/550watt version.

Does that motherboard have the latest bios on it?

Thanks for the reply...

I updated the latest BIOS after I clean install my windows 8.1

Does 650W will do? I mean afaik R9 270x consumes more power than R9 270 or I missing something... also I have fan controller and 1 BD writer so getting 650w will do?

Also don't think it's your gpu since you already changed that and still have problems. As the others do i suspect either the motherboard or psu.
After updating the bios did you save the optimal default settings? Make sure after that you enable XMP too.
One thing you probably haven't done is rebuild the pc to overcome issues that maybe are unseen.Get dust of everything and see how it goes after that.

I think I did optimized bios after I updated it... but I havent do the xmp thing so gonna do that... and yes I rebuild my pc and get dust off everywhere...

BTW I bought new psu which will delivered tomorrow gonna report to you after I installed that...

Update #1 I turn on my desktop today, it gives me 1 long and 2 short beeps, from gigabyte motherboard beep codes: it indicates that this is graphic card error and so I assume that my psu supplying power to vcard is insufficient. Since my vcard is brand new and I also did stress test like 3-4 days ago ( https://unigine.com/products/valley/ )

is my assumption correct?

sadly the problem has not been solved.

I just got home and power on my desktop and still gives me a black screen (with 1 short beep from gigabyte mobo which means all system are ok)

but there's no display, yesterday I switched my vcard from default slot to 2nd pci slot and see if there's difference yet no luck...

Sorry for the late reply... while I did some of them before reading that I gonna double check other parts too... for the meantime I did change my mobo battery today... and can't really say if its ok now or not... gonna report again after a day or two

Ok, after I woke up today to prepare for my work my desktop is running slow ( I leaved it overnight open) while google chorme is on and while browsing my facebook I feel some latency on my pointer and then the problem starts.... when I open a tab my pointer will just show me it's loading and that's it.

I tried to open task manager but it gives me loading cursor too, so it leave me no choice but to hard reset on it.

Update #2 Ok this time experienced again the exact problem when turning on my desktop, I try to replace my hydro coolant with default fan on cpu but I can't seem find my fan... gonna buy tomorrow...

Update #3 the problem is still persist!

I changed my water coolant (name of their brand is scythe) to cooler master hyper 103 and still having an issue when turning on my desktop the it displays nothing but black screen and my monitor doesn't display any info about it..

after a couple of restart I manage to get start my desktop and while browsing and opening mirc my UI of windows 8.1 is kinda crashed and have weird pixels on some part of screen... the only choice I had is to hard reset my desktop :(

So you are saying I take out the gpu and put the dvi to itself and see if the problem persist? I will do that tomorrow, since the problem only occurs when the desktop is turn off in a long time (like 6-10hrs)

I must add this: it's 22:25 now here in japan and I live my desktop open and I woke up like 4-5 am, while surfing the net sometimes I experienced that my desktop is slow responding to my commands and my internet is slowing until it wont load a page in chrome. I tried to ctrl-alt-del or open task manager via taskbar still no respond.

Ok I will test this tomorrow, before turning on my desktop. I really hope I can found the problem here...

EDIT: oh and just heads up, before I go to R9 270x I also experiencing this problem...

Hey guys :) Sorry to interrupt... So from what I've gathered you basically tried everything but your computer still sometimes starts up with no video at all.. am I right? Next time it happens unplug your usb devices.. especially your keyboard and boot up again... :))

Funny thing is.. I've seen this very same issue once and I was about to yank my hair out one by one because I've tried everything.. and I was at the point where I thought the GPU simply died but it still couldn't be since sometimes it would start... So.. out of desperation I disconnected everything but the power and display cables... like magic it started up...

Turns out usb keyboards tend to have very short cables.. and from all the pulling on the keyboard the insulation on the small wires inside broke and the cable shorted somewhere... who knew USB shorts would prevent the gpu from running... So yea.. simply plugging in another keyboard (which was much cheaper than a GPU :D :D) solved the issue then.. and I'm guessing something similar is happening in your case as well!

Cheers

Oh and Vic! I actually tried this back then and that was what led me to believe the gpu was faulty, since despite the usb short the integrated video was still working flawlessly. I guess power is routed separately to that part of the mb.

ohhh!!! thanks for the answer... ok, first I tried Vic's suggestion to remove my gpu and plug my monitor to mobo, it works now without mobo... I saw some forums that mobo built in gpu is interrupting the actual gpu driver itself so disable the built in gpu to mobo via safe mode is my option too...

I'm using AMD drivers and Razer keyboards and mouse just to be more informative :D ok gonna try your suggestion tomorrow since I just got home and my problem persist when my desktop turns off for a long time :D cheers!

UPDATE: when I plugged my gpu and start the desktop the desktop continues as normal and while surfing the net my desktop suddenly crashes. It sound like a broken windows bgm or something and if I wasn't mistaken my fans inside the desktop start spinning so fast! I hard reset my desktop and so far it's ok for now...

Was similar in that case, sometimes as I was just using the computer normally it would crash whenever the cable got in a wrong position. And sometimes when booting up all I got was a black screen and a beep from the pc speaker.

The integrated GPU interrupting the dedicated one was a long time ago :) Modern motherboards simply don't load the onboard one whenever a PCIe card is connected (settings available in bios regarding priority) which means it doesn't appear as a hardware device so windows doesn't load the driver for it.

Right now, given how many different things you've tried already and none of them actually worked I'm guessing you're having a similar issue.. which is kindof hard to diagnose.. what you could try is going through each of your usb cables inch-by-inch and twisting them a bit while making sure the other ones don't move at all to see if one of them causes your system to crash...

Edit: Also note that you also got a black screen and beeps (stated in your dec 31 update). Now that could have indicated that the gpu wasn't seated correctly in the slot.. or it could have been the same issue as I was experiencing. And in case the gpu in fact WAS seated correctly in the slot that basically means it cannot be a driver issue since drivers aren't loaded at that stage so they don't factor in at all. Also keep in mind that even I only got the black screen thing like 1 or 2 times and only when the pc was pulled out from near the desk because I removed the gpu for cleaning and was putting it back in place (the pc being moved further pulled on the cables making it short-circuit at startup which resulted in the boot sequence being halted just as the gpu was about to be initialized). The rest of the time I just got random crashes for no apparent reasons.. sometimes even TDR errors with the gpu and so on.
