PSU Question

Hi,

Ive bought the Sapphire Radeon HD4850 which has a single 6pin power connector and a BFG 450W PSU which comes with 2 6 pin power connectors. Since I have 30 day exchange, am wondering if i made the wrong decision with the PSU. is it enough? i did research but I dont understand how these 12V rails work. so if i use 1 of them for the GPU, does the 18 amps and volts and watts from each rail converge to a single rail? am not an electrical engineer 🙁

As for the psu, it's a low end Huntkey, probably over-rated by about 100 watts, the fact that it has 2 x 6 pin connector's is kinda scary.

to be honest with u i still didnt open the box since am thinking if i wana return it. so i dont know how many 6 pin connectors it has. but doesnt 2 12v rails means 2 six pin connectors?

on the box it says

12V1-12V2
18A---18A
304W for both combined

hey another question. My other GPU says it got a current rating of 22A and it accepts 1 6pin connector. so i connect 1 6pin connector of this PSU, how much amps do i get? each rail got 18 amps. but if i use 1 of them, then do i get 304/12 = 25.3 amps? thanks

No it doesn't.

I should have looked it up, just went by memory on the Huntkey issue, but it only has 1 x 6 pin connector.

Yep, 25.3 amps

You're other gpu has a 22 amp rating ? Perhaps you mean a 22 amp reccomendation ? That's for the entire system, not just the card.
A 6 pin connector is "officially" rated for 6.25 amps, ( it can actually provide more than that ) the rest of the power for the card comes from the PCIE slot.

Read this review of the Huntkey 450, it's probably not exactly the same as the BFG but close enough that I wouldn't use the BFG.

thanks for ur help. i guess if the PSU is ok ill keep it then since sending it back has a 15% refurbish cost other than the UPS shipping cost. i guess ill use this as a lesson, i learned quite a few things about PSU's today. Thanks alot.
