Just installed a PSU... my first time switching one actually. Although I've switched many a other component in my short life.

Is it normal to have a faint plastic burning smell? Nothing major to where I think it's actually burning, but I think I read somewhere that it will go away in a day or two... just curious.

There is ussually a burn in period of a day or two. Can be caused by dust, residual chemical smells that were trapped in the unit from being sealed in a plastic baggy after being manufactured, etc. If it has the 'new car smell' of plastic heating up, I wouldn't worry about it. If it smells like plastic is actually burning (rancid smell) I would very carefully monitor the situation.

I know what I'm doing, I never lose. Can I borrow $5.
