PSU recomendation

well i just read some topics about what a bad PSU can do for ya. well thanks to newfs reply I'm not getting the NeoHE. the PSU's he recommended are very nice. im guessing that i will get what i paid for when i buy them. my system will use about 420 Watts according to eXtreme PSU calculator. these are going to power Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe Motherboard, Athlon 64 4000+, 2GB Corsair XMS, 1 SATA HDD, 1 DVD Burner, and 1 Video Card for now anyways.

The choices are the:

1)Antec TP 2.0 550W $100

2)FSP 600W Epsilon $140

3)PC Power and Cooling $220

my current choice is the FSP. i really love the mesh over the wires and LED fan in it. the PC power and cooling seems to be PURE QUALITY...which will cause me to wait several months before i can get money for it...no job--only 16

help me out please

I am not 100% sure, but I think the quality of the Neo is slightly below the TruePower 550watt.
The neo is cooler looking tho.

The first two choices are especially popular at this forum. The 3rd less so only because of price. You get what you pay for with these. All are SLI certified. The "Bling" factor is zero...

Yes. Any of these will work fine with the Asus board.

How much power you need is a SYSTEM factor, not just the motherboard.
As you can see, SLI certified mobos have high amperage dual (or more) 12 volt rails. These are needed for powering the video card(S).

You will get various opinions on this forum as to how much power is enough. It can be calculated, just don't cut it too close.

2 NVidia 6800 or 7800 cards take a lot of power. So do the fastest CPUs.

BTW, I assume when someone buys an SLI motherboard that they plan to run 2 cards. The PSUs I linked all will handle this without breaking a sweat. However, at NewEgg you will also find an FSP (Fortron) 450 watt power supply for $50 that has 2 18amp 12volt rails. This will work just fine for anything less than the ultimate gaming rig.

No bling...Pay for power by the pound.

If you're using 420w, a 70% load factor is comfortable for a PSU. I'd vote for the Fortron. It will work fine and you can buy it now!
