Title basically says it all. There are signs that my old PSU of 5 years is dying and I need to replace it. My old PSU was pure overkill, 1000W 80+ bronze rosewill.

Major components of my current build is an I7-6700k cpu and 1060Gtx 3 GB Nvidia card.

I don't want to do overkill again, and something that reduced my energy usage would be amazing. I was thinking a 650 80+ gold, as that may allow for card upgrades, or am I wrong?

You need what the GFX card manufacturer says you need as 99.7% of the time that is the determining factor.

https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/products/10series/geforce-gtx-1060/

Thermal and Power Specs:
94 = Maximum GPU Temperature (in C)
120 = Graphics Card Power (W)
400 = Recommended System Power (W)4
6-Pin = Supplementary Power Connectors

Many AIB card vendors will use an 8-pin

Overclocking will change that... some of the time

Here is Guru3D's power supply recommendation:

GeForce GTX 1060 - On your average system the card requires you to have a 350~400 Watts power supply unit.

If you are going to overclock your GPU or processor, then we do recommend you purchase something with some more stamina.

As for upgrades, that would depend on how far ... nVidia cards are decreasing in power of late w/ each generation. A 1080 Ti can consume over 300 watts.

if budget an issue the super Seasonic M12 620 has been going for $35 this week. Not a better PSU at twice the price.

I'd rather have the 620 ... the S12 and M12 520 and 620 are made on Seasonic's GB Bronze Platform which is reviewed here:

The M is the modular version of the S. All of them are under $50 ... seems ya missed out on yesterday's $35 bargain
