PSU SMELL HELP!

I had purchased 6 days ago a Tagan 480 (TG480-u01), howerver I noticed since yesterday there is some strong strange smell comming out the PSU ( like burn rubber/plastic or something like that , but there is no smoke comming out:S. I have checked if the fans were working, there are 2 of them, both seems working fine. I am abit desperated , cuz my system is working fine...only that smell.Can anyone explain how come?

Some new power supplies will put out a bad smell for a little while. Something may have dripped onto the heatsink during manufacturing or something. If it continues to smell bad for a week or two I'd get it replaced.

But is it not bad for your healht to smell, cuz is like something a smile of ozone wich is defenaitly bad!

Return it. Now buy a better PSU.

Some parts have a coating that burns off, others such as the housing can have an oily film on them. Of course this stuff is all toxic, but nobody seems to care, you probably get a greater exposure to toxic hydrocarbons when you fill your fuel tank with gasoline (in other words, they're probably putting out acceptably low levels of toxicity in the air).

My whole room is now covered with this strange smell!!
so its nothing to be concerned about and the smell will go ?

It depends on the size of the room and ventilation. The thing shouldn't be putting out a large volume of smell, but the smell it puts out could be rather strong. It shouldn't take very much ventilation to prevent the smell from building up in an average office space.

i notice the psu is also quite hot when running couple of hours tho i am sure its not running @ full wattage (480W)

Someone brought me a PC with the same problem. When I plugged in in it not only smelled, but it smoked and I could see a faint flickering light from inside.

I grabbed my fire extinguisher but foolishly decided to see what would happen.

Oddly enought the machine actually posted and booted XP before it stopped shut down. Then the flames and the smoke just stopped.

Its true that some electronics have a burning smell, but I have never had it last more than maybe six hours.

What every you do I woulnd't leave that system running unattened until the smell goes away!
