PSU Sockets Question

Hi All,

I've just got a quick question regarding connecting a GPU to the PSU. Basically, the Seasonic PSU I plan to get only has 8pin PCIE sockets, but my GPU will need one 8pin and one 6pin connector. So, how am I supposed to connect the 6pin cable to the PSU if there are no 6pin sockets? Also, I am planning on replacing the two stock cables with Silverstone Braided cables, these ones:

Thanks in advance.

Solution
no that's why its a 6+2 if you need 8 you use them all if you need 6 you use the 6 and not the 2 just leave them hanging loose, don't hurt nothing it cuts down on them having to add a bunch of unnecessary cords

So, if I were to get two of these ones: http://tinyurl.com/nhu6tna and then just leave the 2pin hanging off the side for the 6pin PCIE slot on the GPU, would it work? That wouldn't be ideal though as I'm going for a real nice looking build and don't really want to 2 pins of the 8pin hanging off the side.

This is the PSU if it helps: http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/5800/seasonic-m12ii-750w-evo-edition-750-watt-80-plus-bronze-psu-review/index3.html

Are you sure that wouldn't overpower the GPU or anything, if I'm using 8pin power from the CPU and then turning it into essentially 6pin? Sorry, I'm new to this.

Edit: Could an 8pin to 6pin converted work or would that be dangerous?

Ok, thanks buddy, I'll just get two of the 6+2pins then :)

I will be getting an MSI Z97 Gaming 5.

The PSU says on it that the 8pin slots are PCI-E / CPU, so does that mean that the slots for the PCIE cables and CPU power cables are interchangeable?

what seasonic unit are you looking at?? like this 850x has all you need for just about everything on a full modular psu each lead has it own plug in in the back of the unit and marked as so so if you need a pci-e lead you grab it plug it into the pci-e socket in the back of the psu and hook the other end to the card

its fairly goof proof

It's this one: http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/5800/seasonic-m12ii-750w-evo-edition-750-watt-80-plus-bronze-psu-review/index3.html

I get that it's fairly goof proof, but I don't see where I'm supposed to put the 8pin CPU power connector, surely if I put it into one of the PCI-E sockets, which is what is suggested on the PSU, it wouldn't work because they use different voltages?

Yeah, I know where the cable plugs into the Motherboard, that's not what I'm confused about.

If you look at this picture of the PSU, where am I supposed to put the other end of the CPU power cable?

Thanks, so which of those sockets would I put the 8pin CPU connector into? Because I can't see one specifically labelled 'CPU' like on most PSUs?

I don't know I don't have that unit in my hand but the plugs are keyed to only fit there spot on the unit look at the ends of the leads you can see the the plug ends are all different shapes and order if male plug don't match the female socket then it don't go there its not that hard but as I said I guess you can get careless and just cram them in where ever and hope for the best after that
