Psu solid 8 pin connector to 6 pin gpu

Hi, I want to install a new graphics card Asus radeon 460 4gb with 6 pin connector but my power supply is a solid 8 pin connector. Can I use an adapter 8 to 6 pin? Is there any risk?

Your PSU should have a cable labeled "PCIe" and it will have a 6+2 pin connector.

That looks like a semi modular PSU from what google shows. It should come with one of those. It may not be plugged into the unit at the moment. If not you may need to acquire one from somewhere that is compatible with your PSU.

Is this a PSU you bought?

If it doesn't say PCIe on it, it's not the right kind of cable.

I found the cable but it doesn't say PCIe I installed it and the graphics card turns on and spin but I have no signal monitor

As in you found the 6+2 cable or that you forced-in the 8-pin?

I found the 8 to 6 pin cable I plugged it in and the graphics card turned on and the fans were spinning. I went to a local computer store and This is the 3rd new card I try this new doesn't need the power supply connector and the same thing happened. Everything works but no monitor signal. They said it's probably my monitors don't support the video card and I tried with a new monitor and still no signal. I tried taking the battery off to reset the bio didn't work either.
Now I put back my old graphics card and this one works perfect. I don't know what to do

If its a solid 8 pin connector, then its wrong one, likely for the CPU power.

I took my pc to the pros and they said my motherboard is too old and it doesn't support the graphics card so now I got a msi gtx 960 2gb they said it works with my motherboard but this gpu has 8 pin connector my psu is modular and it has the option of 6 pins or 8 pins connections but the cable I have is a 6+2 to 6 u guys think I can go with the 6 pins to psu and the 6+2 to the gpu or I need to get a 6+2 to 6+2 connector?

Your old system was just fine as it was. You had the right cable the whole time. It goes from a 6 pin at the psu to a 6+2 I believe.

Which is a 6pin (at PSU end) to 6+2 (8pin) at the gpu end, then it will be ok. Thats normal.

Ok! after trying 3 different graphics cards (colorful reddragon, Asus rx 460 4gb, gigabyte 460 4gb) the pros said the problem was my motherboard didn't support the new gpu so I decided to get the gtx 960. Then I had another problem (because I don't know much about computer) and it was that I have a modular psu and I didn't know how plug everything in because I had a 6 pin connector to 6+2 cable and as you guys told me what I did was : 6 pin to psu (red connectors) and 6+2 to gpu.
