Hi there, I am going to buy a new power suplly and I need to know Its specifications.
How much amps on the...
+3,3V?
+5V?
+12V?
Should I care about the -5V, -12, and +5vsb? And that stuff of "current: 7a/4a". Is that important?

How do I measure the combined power? Some power supllys doesn't show in the cover the combined power.

For now, I will be using a Athlon 800 with video, modem, sound and lan cards, CD, HD and floppy.

I won't be using any peltiers, SCSI stuff or lots of HDs. Maybe 2 hard drives and a Athlon 1200.

Please don't recommend me a power suplly, but show me how to choose one.

Thanks a lot

Certain brands are often recommended by IT people, due to experience with the units. That's something you can't get without installing them on a regular basis, monitoring the voltages, judging the quality level of the PSU, and seeing how many have to be sent back because of defects.

But if you don't want a recommendation, that's your choice.

I hope you find the webpage informative. Happy Research!

Thanks for the page.

But what I really was trying to find is to UNDERSTAND a power suplly.

Because my PSU is weak, and I want to be sure to buy a good one, but I can't spend much money on those enermax's.

I know that the +3.3V, +5V and +12V Are the most important and that the +3.3V is the one wich will feed up the AGP (that's what I need!!)

Someone recommended me one that has 20 amps on the +3.3V. But right now I have 2 models to choose:

1- TRONI 300W
+3,3V = 15 amps
+12V = 11.5 amps
+5V = 29 amps
current: 8a/4a
combined power: ?????
I didn't like very much this one becouse It has only 15 amps on the +3.3V. But I know a guy that has It with a Duron 800 + GeForce2 and It works fine (mine is Athlon 800 + GeForce2).

2- Satellite LC-350 ATX (watts = ???)
+3.3V = 17 amps
+12V = 12 amps
+5V = 27 amps
current: 7a/4a
combined power: ???????
This one says "350" on the model, but I don't think It is really 350W. I have now a awful Satellite "SPX - 350C/2.01", witch also says "350", but is so poor (+3.3V = 10 amps) that It can't mean 350W.

So, could you guys now give me a recommendation?:)

The first, that is just 300W but people say is nice, or the second, that I don't know the wattage but has 17 amps on the +3.3V and coul be 300W or less?
Both of them are the same price.

Thanks again

Sir, with just these two models to choose from, I can't help you very much at all. I wish that I could.

I haven't personally dealt with PSU's from these two companies, and I was unable to locate a web presence for either of them.

My advice would be to go with the PSU that is a known quantity to you, which in this case would be the TRONI.

If you would like a list of a few more brands and prices, I'll be happy to supply links that you can browse.
