PSU Start Up Problem

What could cause the PSU to not work when connected to the motherboard? It works when i do the paperclip trick but when i go to connect my 4/8 12v connector and my 24pin connector it doesnt turn on. please help. All my parts are new and compatible so they all should be working..

It could be the power switch on the case. What are you system specs? Many newer motherboards have a power switch right on them. If yours does, try pushing it to see if it comes on.

Paperclip test only proves there is some power , doesn't prove that it's at 100%.

It powers up my front panel fans and itself, but i see no light on the power supply itself.

im getting really discouraged about my first computer. cant even get it to turn on..

If it's powering fans, and probably your drives, you do have power. It's not shutting down after powering up momentarily either.

My guess is that it's a case of non-POSTing and not a PSU issue (though it's still a possibility).
