Question psu to cpu connection

Hi,

The cable that goes from the psu to the motherboard for cpu power doesn't match perfectly

Motherboard:

Cable:

If not clear in the picture, the pattern is:

ROUNDED SQUARE ROUNDED ROUNDED
SQUARE ROUNDED ROUNDED ROUNDED


I saw something that said that a rounded connection can go into square connection, but a square connection can't go into a rounded connection, is this correct?
So have I got the correct cable? (on the cable it says PSU at one end, and CPU on the other)

Yes, it should be ok. If it says cpu on the other side then it is the right cable.

Yes, that's correct. I had the same concern when I got a 6 pin to 8 pin GPU power adapter. It turned out OK because the 'rounded' contact was intended to go into a 'squared' socket and it worked correctly.

But I stressed a bit too before proceeding.

Shape of the pins is meaningless. The orientation of the connector is determined by the latch on the side of the connector.
