PSU to GPU PCI-E

Hello. I have been planning to upgrade to the RTX 2080Ti, which is quite a jump from my GTX 970, and that cards needs 16 pins of PCI-E connection. I would normally use just 2 6+2 pin cables but I don't have any, but I was supplied, with my previous GPU, a cable that goes from 8 pin (the end that would connect to the PSU/Molex cables) to a 6+2 that also splits into another 6+2 from that. Would that suffice in powering a 16-pin GPU?

Maybe this makes more sense: 8---------6+2----6+2.

Edit: Found out it was completely regular. But if anyone wants to give extra tips/info that'd be great!

That is kinda what the cable looks like.
Although I know how to replace a GPU, I haven't ran into cables like this before.

Yes 6+2 and 6+2 = 2x 8-pin.

But, you can't just go using a modular cable from a different PSU because the pin layout can be different and you can fry some components. Sometimes PSUs use the same layout, but sometimes they don't.

What PSU do you have and what PSU did the cable come from? Not that I would know if they are compatible, but maybe someone will know.
