An IT friend gave this to me when their office did a massive PC upgrade and decided to make it a little project. I upgraded it with i7- 4770S from Facebook Marketplace. Obviously, I also spoiled it with a spanking brand new Crucial SSD and a pre-owned 16GB RAM. I wanted to upgrade the 180W PSU to a much higher wattage in preparation for the GPU that I am still contemplating to buy - I am eyeing for at least GTX 1060 with 125W requirement. Last night I tried to hook up a PSU from a different PC just to try it. The brand is BFG Tech 650W Model BFGR650PSU. It has a 20+4 pin (MoBo) and 4 pin (ATX) connectors - everything looked fine. Pressed the power on switch and Whoala! it didn't fire up. Both PC units are working until I switched the PSU. Okay, can anybody please tell me what's going on? Are PSU connectors proprietary?

This is my project: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04484447

Any or all help is appreciated! Thank you!

I remember hearing about this before. Usually some OEM motherboards like HP, or Dell have different ATX pins which needing an adapter in some cases.

But after looking through your motherboard it doesn't look like you need that so it is possible to upgrade you PSU as many said here.

Since the BFG psu works make sure to connect them properly, or try to reseat all the connections.
