PSU upgrade needed?

Hello,

I just bought the Nvidia GTX 1070. I wish to use it with my old Gigabyte GTX 770 (600W required). I currently have a 600W PSU and am wondering if someone knowledgable could tell me what kind of power I'll need before I pop the 770 back in with the 1070.

Also, the 770 has both 8 and 6 pin power inputs. The 8 pin was initially connected to it, but now the 8 pin is connected to the 1070. Will the 6 pin work ok in the 770? My PSU only has one 8 pin connector. (I'm new)

You'll want to upgrade that power supply as soon as possible. Its awful quality. Get the Corsair CXM series or the Seasonic M12ii/ S12ii

If you do get the S12/M12, they are fantastic units, but have a very aggressive fan profile. Make sure you get something plenty powerful enough and stay below sort of 75% load. Just in my experience with 3 of these units. But they are very well made and stable, but do use older tech now.

The CXM is a good choice as well.

Its a good unit. It does use older group regulation tech (I believe) but its still decent. I am very pleased with my 750GQ, which although doesn't quite manage the regulation or ripple as the seasonic, is very well within spec and well reviewed across the internt. you can step up to the 750G2 for their high end offering.

Corsair RM750x is another option, although somewhat more expensive.

And my warning stands, I got rid of the M12ii 620 I had. Its fan would ramp up and down like crazy when pulling 400w from it...did it with 3 different units and its a known 'issue'.
