Hello I just got a new power supply and while I’m playing (usually Overwatch) my power % sometimes goes to 90% and once even went to 102% (don’t even know how that it possible xD).

My setup is:

Corsair TX650 power supply
gygabite GTX 1070 gaming G1 graphics card
Intel I7 7700 processor
Asrock b250 gaming K4 motherboard
I have 3 fans 2 NZXT case fans and 1 Corsair LL120mm series fan (without RGB because I don’t have the box to connect the Corsair fan).

Yeah, so my problem is just that I don’t know if its normal for my power usage to be spiking to 90-100% while gaming its usually 70/80% while gaming. When my pc is idle with nothing open power % is 7-11%
I am using MSI Afterburner to see power%

Solution
Your power supply is plenty for that configuration unless you are heavily overclocking both the CPU and graphics card. Since you have a B250 motherboard and a locked CPU, obviously you're not. You should be fine. That's a decent enough power supply and has more than enough capacity for your configuration. Usually I have to tell people the other way around, so be glad.

Your configuration could easily run on a good 500w unit. Having 650w and it being a decent unit makes for some breathing room actually. Your power usage readings are not proportional to the power being used by the power supply. They are related to the percentage of power that the graphics card CAN use, rather than what your PSU can provide.

Yeah, exactly.... 😀

Wouldn't be surprised if sometime chimed in and told him he only needs a 450W PSU. LOL

The way things have been lately.

But that 650W PSU he has and it being a good one gives him room to upgrade.

I have my GPU set to run up to 117% if needed so yeah he is good.
