Hello. I have been planning on "upgrading" my i3 6100 for an i7 4960X + 24GB of DDR3, however, i'm not sure if my 600W PSU would handle it all. I have used a couple of PSU calculators and the general result was 420W, but i saw some i7 benchmarks and i noticed that it consumes about 300w of power in maximum load, and considering all other components, i'm not completely trusting those calculators, and would like a better answer.

yes, i know that, if i upgrade, i'm going to get a full kit (lga2011 motherboard, ddr3 ram, and the processor itself), my only question is if my PSU will handle all of it, the processor, graphics card, and all other possible things
OK, that makes more sense. The power supply is more than enough... depending on which "600W" PSU it is. Can you tell us? Make, model?
Btw, why are you going backwards in technology from DDR4 to DDR3, etc.? Why not upgrade the i3-6100 to a better CPU?

My PSU is a EVGA 600B 80 Plus Bronze. Also, i don't know. I have always liked the i7 extreme edition CPUs, and since now i have the chance of getting one, i have really thought about getting it, also if i buy the i7's kit, i could get more ram. Still, i thought a lot about getting a Ryzen CPU. I know that in specs, the ryzen is miles ahead. Still, the feeling of having a i7 extreme edition is something i've always wanted to experience, and i think that this i7 + 24gigs of ddr3 will be more than enough for a looong time.
