PSU wattage help and recommendations..ordering new build tomorrow

This is everything I plan to get (unless anyone has any other suggestions)

Antec Three Hundred Two case (most likely)
i5 3570k CPU
Asus P8Z77-V Pro motherboard
Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600 MHz (2x4GB)
i have a HDD and optical drive already and im going to use the onboard graphics for now

ive spent a good part of the day trying to pick out a power supply and reading reviews and cant decide..

i dont play games at all and eventually i will get a single mid range GPU

some sites say for a normal PC with one GPU they would get at least 600-650w and other say 500-550w would be more than enough

i was thinking about the Corsair TX650v2 which is a good PSU but is it over kill for me? one reason i dont know is because it has soooo many cables and the most components i will ever have will be
1 GPU
2 Optical drives
2-3 Hdd at the most

so there will be plenty of cables i will never have a use for

part of me wants to get modular for that reason but i only wanted to spend around $70
i did see an ocz modular but most of the reviews on newegg and every single website stress how short the 24 pin cable is

any recommendations welcome...including wattage i should be looking for and some links for good psu's...hopefully modular..thanks

Will you be overclocking?

Also ask yourself if you'll get a high-end graphics card and/or 2 graphics cards in SLI or Crossfire configuration.

If your answer is no to both of the above, a 650w is overkill.

450-500 for mid to high end no overclocking depending on the cpu/gpu combination. 550w for light overclocking purposes. 600w for the slightly heavier overclocking, both cpu and gpu, along with the usual aftermarket cpu cooler and possibly more fans. and usually 750w+ for high end crossfire/sli

its rare that a 650w will be used. the only time its visably needed is crossfiring/sli mid range cards like 6850's

Knowing which video card is rather important, saying midrange doesn't say much anymore, todays GTX670 uses a good deal less power than the last generation GTX570
A good quality 500-550 watt psu is enough for just about any single card system and all the overclocking the average person can muster, unless that person decides to do nothing but run power viruses with his machine

He's not going to be able to get a massive OC on that CPU and I bet he doesn't get any higher GPU than a 7770. A good quality 450W should be more than enough for his PC. Realistically, the Antec Earthwatts EA-380D has more than enough power for that rig.
