Hello guys. So, about a week ago I noticed my PSU was making a weird noise (or it comes from there), and it has been doing that noise since last week. Now, it doesn't make that sound all the time, but every day, sometimes louder and sometimes quieter, sometimes it doesn't even make that sound at all. However, this has been worrying me as I am afraid my psu will fail and affect the other components, therefore - I'm searching for help here what the problem can be. Here's the sound: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LsjClOBPf-U Here's some of my specs:

i7-4770k
R9 290
XFX proseries Core edition 650w
H87 mobo.
8GB of RAM.

Thanks if any help is given! :)

That PSU is from the Tier 1 list which is good., before going further I would pop the side off the case and try to listen more carefully to make sure its not a video card whine or even from somewhere else.

Unfortunately I can't listen to your video at work, but I had a similar PSU issue that remained even after replacing the PSU. Turned out (obviously) it wasn't the PSU but one of my system fans, specifically one connected directly to the PSU via molex connector. When its connected that way it gets driven to the max. I swapped it with another fan, plugged it into a motherboard fan header instead that the other fan was on (ant put that fan to the molex connector) , and everything is happy, for now.

Hey! I tried to listen more carefully and I'm sure it comes from the psu, the sound comes from the bottom of the case. Maybe it's worth noting that I have never had any crashes or any weird stuff happening since this noise occured. I'm just worried that it's gonna fail and affect my other components. What could it be?

Just saying I was 100% sure it was my PSU too (the sound I was SURE was coming from it), and it may very well be, but just for troubleshooting purposes try disconnecting system fans and starting up see if it goes away. Some graphics cards also you can unplug the fans. Its worth a shot.

The whine doesn't necessarily mean it will fail, and if a PSU fails it won't take anything with it unless it like explodes. The only ones that do that are the cheap crap ones, you have a very good one.

Indeed, however - I haven't seen any wires being in the way of the fan. Could it be dust? My room is quite dusty. I was thinking about opening the PSU but I've read that it could be dangerous and such. The fan also looks quite dusty.

I've had it for over a year now (the psu). I've heard you should never open the PSU. Is it dangerous?

I disconnected the system fans and the Grahpics card - unfortunately, the sound still remained :/

Don't need to open the PSU, I would highly advice against that. Canned air is commonly used to blow out some dust, or a compressor if you have one that will not put oil or water out with the air, (filtered) and pressure shouldn't be so intense as to damage something. Can of air seems like your best bet.

None of what I have at home, I guess I will have to purchase that ...

I thought that too before, so I secured the PSU more, didn't work unfortunately :/
