Punkbuster, sv_pure, custom server question

Hello...

I've been running an 8-player, heavily modded Q3 server on cable that is
mainly frequented by our neighbors and friends. Well, due to popular
demand from visitors, it's going "big time" now, 24 players on 100MB/s
managed server.

Which brings up a question.

We haven't ran PB and have ran with sv_pure 0 for a long time and really
have had very few cheaters. I know that will change after moving up
though. The problem is, I run all custom maps, sounds and models, on top
of q3script mod. I know cheating will become a major problem if left as
it is.

I've seen PB work on WolfET and it does pretty good job IMO, but my
experiences with PB in Q3A hasn't compared favorably at all. From what
I've been told by most people, if I do run PB on the server, I can forget
about running the mod and all the custom files. Well, there's no way I'm
paying to rent a high speed server just to run Vanilla Q3 and the id
maps.

So, is there a way to run PB (and pure server) with the custom maps and
files enabled? Several players have told me they don't think so, but I
want to hear from some admins. Any links one can provide to maybe shed
light on this?

Thanks.

Any reason? PB works fine with all mods, custom maps etc.

The answer is yes.

sv_pure first of all has nothing to do with punkbuster. Having a pure
server, in simple terms , means that clients will only be allowed to
load non standard pk3 files that are matched to those on the server.
Therefore in order for you to run custom maps and the likes they must
already be on the server so there will be no issue with the client
other than to download those files that you are running.

Okay... I just plain went ahead and set up PB and it works fine. In fact,
a LOT better than it did last time I tried it on a server (kicked pretty
much everyone and crashed the remaining clients). I haven't seen any
problems with the mod or the custom maps.
