[SOLVED] Purchased RAM with SODIMM but wanted a DIMM memory stick

Hi,

I have purchased below memory sticks from Newegg website:

Ballistix Sport LT 16GB Kit (8GBx2) DDR4 2400 MT/s (PC4-19200) SODIMM 260-Pin Memory

But my motherboard has compatibility of DIMM ports only Product link below:


Gigabyte GA-B250M-D3H


I have asked Newegg for refund, not sure if they would is there any website to sell them.


Also Could anyone please suggest a compatible RAM with this motherboard.

I live in India and ordering products from Newegg was headache as they delayed my order by 2 weeks, please suggest products from Amazon with description.

lookup your motherboard on gigabytes website and look at the QVL list. it will have a list of ram modules that were tested with the board

For future reference, all desktops use the DIMM form factor (288 pin for DDR4). SODIMM modules (260 pin for DDR4) are for laptops.

In theory, any DDR4 DIMMs should work with your mobo (although any high speed RAM you buy would only run at 2133 or 2400 MHz, depending on your CPU, as your mobo doesn't support overclocked RAM). But as said above, if you want something that's guaranteed to work, check your motherboard's memory support list.

TJ thats not entirely accurate, there are some itx desktop boards that use sodimms and some AIO desktops also use sodimms.

Ah, yeah, forgot about that. Although any 'desktop' PCs that use SODIMMs would also use mobile-class CPUs (e.g. some AIO desktops, mini PCs like an Intel NUC). So if you're building your own PC you'd never end up with a build that required SODIMMs.

I have few question though sorry if these are silly question but i don't know what below columns represent :

what is the memory socket support and other columns in the table?

the socket is referring to how many sticks of ram each kit has. so if there is a "v" in each socket column that means the kit comes with 4 sticks of ram

RAM : HyperX FURY Black 8 GB CL15 DIMM DDR4 2400 MT/s Internal Memory (HX424C15FB2/8)
Quantity : 2

instead of below kit :

RAM : HyperX FURY Black 16 GB Kit CL15 DIMM DDR4 2400 MT/s Internal Memory (HX424C15FB2K2/16)
Quantity : 1 (2x8 GB Kit)

what will be the difference?, both are listed in QVL list and 8 GB RAM (HX424C15FB2/8) is available in India where as the 16 GB Kit (HX424C15FB2K2/16) will take long time to deliver

the model number is different because the model number goes by how much memory and sticks of ram the item is giving you
