Question Purchasing an RX 580 in 2024 ?

Hey all!

I was just wondering if purchasing an RX 580 was a good idea in 2024. It would already be an upgrade to my GTX 970. My main concern is with drivers. Can I still get drivers for it? Do they get updated and will I be able to use it for everyday use, gaming, editing etc. What are the main pro's and cons.?

So hasn't been phased out yet? Even if when they do how detrimental is it to the use of the card? Thank you

Even if phased out, the older drivers would still meet most users' needs for quite some time. There are other GPU families that are in the same scenario, yet people continue to use them just fine...with the older drivers.

About as far back as I would go for a recommendation.

Just be aware that when they do end driver support, when new games start popping up they may not work correctly. But everything older than the latest driver should be mostly fine.

That said, it is still an older card, so there are games it will struggle to run today.

And really, it's an incremental upgrade from the GTX 970, except in games in which the GTX 970's VRAM starts to be a problem (and most of those games, you're not playing on the RX 580 on very high settings).

Side grade from a 970.

A 1660 variant would be a real notable update. Of course, this recommendation is given without knowing the balance of the system. If the CPU is similarly older and of a lower tier it may not do you any good at all.
