Purple vertical lines showing on screen

My Toshiba Satelite laptop has two purple vertical lines showing on the monitor. Would this be a graphics or video card problem?

if its there when your booting, your screen is going bad.

this can be caused by--graphics chip problem--or lcd faulty--but a lot of the time its the ribbon between the laptop base and the back of the screen thats needing replaced

It is the LCD panel starting to go out. There isn't anything to do but replace the panel. There is nothing wrong with using it like that as it won't cause any damage, it is just obnoxious.
