I've got 8gb of DDR3 Samsung RAM (on CPU-Z it tells me that each card's max bandwidth is PC3-12800 (800MHz) dont know if thats helpful.

anyway, i was wondering if I could get any other brand of DDR3 ram to bring my memory up to 16gb- this would make my photoshop work very, very fast.
Samsung RAm is £50

Currys do some RAM cheaper....
EDIT: there is some ddr3 pc3-12800 ram at currys for £40,

i have a £5 off voucher aswell

So what should i do? get pc3- 10600?

im confused what you said. If i get this other stick (3 in total- 8gb+4gb+4gb) will it be running at 16gb or not?

so is it all right to have 3 sticks in at once- the 8gb stick is 1600mhz, the 4gb 800mhz each.
would this configuration work to 16gb? or would it have to be 4x4gb?

You should be able to find cheaper 800 mhz memory. They do not have to be symmetric, it should be ok to have 8 + 4 + 4, but there is no need to pay for 1600 when you need 800 mhz.

So will this configoration... YES or NO
RAM slots
8gb(1600)
4gb(800)
[empty}
4gb(800)
and will it give me 16gb of ram?

i dont have loads of money and the 8gb stick is 15 pounds cheaper than 2 4gb sticks ;p

ive just learned that CPUZ shows the DRAM Frequency as half- so the 800MHZ is actually 1600MHZ!
i'm going to double cheak the actual mhz on the stick when i shut down.

the 4gb sticks are 1600mhz each! CPUZ (where i found out that they were 800 each, actually is half of the actual amount.
