Put in RAM and had a burning smell

Hello,

I have two ports and bought 2x4GB but they were diagnosed with a problem so I returned them to the shop for further testing. So in the meantime, I put in my old stick of RAM that I used before buying the new ones and remembered I have another one stored up. So I put that one in the other slot and booted the PC up. It stopped working and I could sense a burning smell. I quickly unplugged it and pulled out the sticks of RAM since I figured they were the issue. More precisely the one I had stored. So I put back the other stick and booted the PC and it was fine. However, once I gotten back the sticks from the shop, I put them back in and saw I only have 4GB of installed memory. I tried switching up the sticks but all combinations had the same result. The culprit stick is Kingston KVR1333D3N9/2G. It is less tall than the other RAM sticks, but it is also DDR3 and I didn't see any other difference. I am afraid I fried that USB slot somehow.

I am running the following:
ASRock FM2A55M-VG3+ Motherboard
AMD A8-5600K APU 3.6GHz
NVidia GeForce GT 1030
MS Platinum 500W Power Supply
AData Premier DDR3 1600 4GB RAMx2 (Although, only one slot is working)

Thanks for the help.
